Haldex filter replacement

Has anyone happy their Haldex filter replaced. Lots of chat on TT forum. As audi don’t list filter change - just oil change every three years. However audi do supply the filter and many experts say change oil every 3 years and filter every 6. Has anyone got audi to change the filter? In my manual it only lists an Haldex oil change as a service item.
Thanks
Steve

From roughly 2014 the series5 Haldex was introduced and this apparently does not have a main filter so it depends on the age of your Q3.

My 2012 Q3 was fully serviced by Audi and they did not replace the filter when doing the Haldex oil change.
A couple of years later the Haldex stopped working and it turned out to be caused by a secondary mesh filter screen becoming blocked. I cleaned the screen, fitted a new filter and changed the oil and all has been well so far. More info here -

I had my Haldex filter changed at the 40k mark when the Haldex and S-Tronic fluids were changed. They don't do it normally but will if asked and I think it's well worth it.

As I know dealer says it doesn't need replacing and, here in Greece, they don't have it as spare part. You must order it outside dealer and have it replaced, there is no possibility that differentials don't need filter replacing..

Change it when replacing Haldex oil

I'd get the filter changed at the same time as the oil change. Its not an expensive item and rules out a possibility of problems later.

I've just done a routine diagnostic scan and the dreaded 00448 fault code has come back after 20 months.
As a result I've been checking the parts needed to replace the pump and noticed some of the Haldex specialists don't stock the latest Audi spec oil

Correct oil according to the parts list is G 060 175 A2

PS. Steve, If yours is the Mk4 Haldex I'd highly recommend removing the pump and checking / cleaning the mesh screen in addition to the oil and filter change

I had a Haldex pump replaced this morning at Audi at a cost of £565. I asked them also to replace the Haldex filter and was told that it did not require replacement at any time.

Spotted some new info on servicing the Mk4 and Mk5 Haldex units which may be of interest.

The Mk4 Haldex was superseded in late 2012 so most owners will have the Mk5 unit.

The Mk4 has a replaceable filter (Audi don't recognise this as a service item) and a washable mesh screen on the pump inlet - again it's not part of the Audi service process.

The Mk5 only has the mesh screen

Oil change intervals seem to be every 3 years with no mileage limit - though most VAG specialists suggest 20,000 miles max

The following info came from the Haldex Repairs web site. In addition to the service and repair guides they also stock oil, filters O.rings and pumps

Just checked my Haldex (2012 Q3) and it is gen 4 based on the info in the link. I see there is also good instructions on the same website for the gen 4 servicing and repair, but it certainly looks like the servicing is considerably more involved than the gen 5 Haldex. I will need to do mine in the next 5000km, so thanks for the link Spike :)

My car was three years old yesterday and next service is likely to be next year so how does the three year service interval work. Will Audi contact me or do I have to be on the ball or this forum to be right?

When my car was coming up to 3 years old I had the MOT done by Audi and asked them to do the Haldex at the same time.

Think it's worth being pro-active, so contact them and not rely on the Dealer notifying you of these 'additional' service items. Same applies to the brake fluid change which is also needed at 3 years (and every 2 years after that initial change)

Thanks for the advice. been experiencing a bit of front end vibration through the steering wheel at around 70. Just had two tyres fitted so I'll try a faster run to see if the vibration has gone then get back to the dealer.

For info there a few different spec Haldex oils on the market
Our Q3s require this spec. It's sold in 850ml bottles and either the Audi G 060 175 A2 version or Borg Warner's equivalent is what you need - https://www.haldexrepairs.co.uk/sho...hop/fluids/vw-audi-group-high-performance-oil-g060175a2-for-haldex-gen-4-and-5/

Both Mk4 and Mk5 units should have the pump filter screen cleaned as part of the oil change service while the Mk4 also needs a filter change.
It's worth replacing the Haldex pump O.rings when cleaning the filter screen - https://www.haldexrepairs.co.uk/product-category/haldex-other-small-parts/
