Hi All,
I would like to share something that hapenned with my car few weeks ago and can be a problem for someone else too.
I bought my car used, with 23.000 km. It has the S-tronic 7 speed DQ500 gearbox (dual clutch).
Most days mu wife stays with it.
Two months ago I started using the car every day and noticed a clunky/metal noise coming from the gearbox during some gear changes ONLY WHEN the system was cold (water temp 0-77/80 Celcius).
The noise heppened sometimes, not every time, and sometimes changing up from 2nd to 3rd gear, sometimes reducing 3-2, sometimes reducing 4-3. Sometimes the noise was louder and even with a jolt, sometimes the noise was hard to hear and the change was smooth.
But only with the engine/gearbox cold, once with the system heat up no noise at all. So mainly I used to hear the noises in the first drive in the morning for a few minutes.
So, as this is my first DSG/Stronic car and I know that these gearboxes have some noises that are considered normal (the clutches noise when rolling over bad pavement for example) I took my car to the Audi Dealer for a diagnosis.
I had to leave the car there for them to drive the car next day in the morning with the system cold.
So next day they called me with the diagnosis result: "We are going to replace your gearbox. Come pick the car and use it as normal until the new gearbox unit arives because we dont have one here now. 20 das to delivery."
I was surpised because a gearbox change is expensive. They normally dont change these kind of component straight away here in Brazil. Normally they will ask 1000 things and try to avoid do it in warranty until the end.
The Audi dealer guy said me that even he found strange because the Audi didnt asked much about it. He said that Audi wanted to open my box to analyse the noise and that it will be shipped to germany... And actually I will never know what hapenned.
SO....Bottom line....
In my opinion maybe (MAYBE) there is some issues in some S-tronic 7 speed DQ500 gearboxes and Audi can be trying to avoid a Recall. Or maybe just my gearbox came defective from factory.
My car have all the programmed maintenance done at the same Audi Dealer.
Sorry for the long text but if you hear a noise like mine on our gearbox, take it to the dealer ASAP!!
OBS - My car is already running with the new gearbox and the noise disapeared. All OK now.
Cheers!!
