The sheer variety of Q3 engine options often causes confusion as some are fitted with cam (or timing) belts whilst others of a very similar design have timing chains. Audi main dealers are not the best source of information either as they are prone to trying to drum up business by telling owners their cam belt needs changing regardless of whether their variant actually has one.
