Does anyone with an RSQ3 have a VCDS Auto-Scan log they could check for me? I just need the following section of the log:

Address 02: Auto Trans (J743) Labels:. 0BH-927-711.clb

No fault code found.

I'm having the transmission software updated next Tuesday, and want to compare versions on other cars. Ideally facelift, but pre-facelift would help too.

Seem to recall a couple of RS owners have OBD 11 and wondered, if it has the facility to run a transmission scan, maybe they would help out.

Cheers Spike

PS. Is it an Audi transmission software update or an S-Tronic performance mod

It is an Audi update to the transmission software. When changing from 4th to 5th (in auto) under certain conditions, there is a slight 'crunch' of gears. It happens occasionally when slowly increasing speed as it changes into 5th at about 30-32 mph. There was a TPI (20417771/1) issued about it in September 2015 but it contained no details of the cure. When I was having my brake pads changed a couple of weeks ago I asked my Indy to find out more, and he found out about the software update.

I think it affects cars with the 0BH 300 012 C control module with version 2230 of the software. I found an auto-scan of a facelift RSQ3 on Ross-Tech, but that has the 0BH 300 012 S module, so I suspect it is only the pre-facelift cars which are affected.

Thanks very much for the offer John, but I can't make it tomorrow. Having found the auto-scan on Ross-Tech I think I have a better idea of the situation now anyway - later cars have a different control module.

What is confusing both me and the Indy is that the latest flash file on the (off-line) ODIS Engineering system is V.2219, yet mine (and another pre-FL I have seen) is V.2230. The Indy has the SVM update number, so is going to connect to the Audi on-line system to do the update. I'll try to get a copy of the latest TPI when I see him on Tuesday, in case it is of interest to anyone else.

Well, apparently there wasn't a revised TPI, but when he connected the computer to the car, and to Audi, it found the SVM to download and update the DSG software. After the update, I now have V.2219 instead of V.2230. We were both a bit mystified, but apparently when he spoke to Audi Technical they couldn't explain why the update was a lower version number. I guess that the slightly annoying thing is that I could have done it myself if I had had the confidence.

It is early days, but (crossing my fingers) it seems to have done the trick. As it was an occasional 'fault' it will take a week or two to know for sure, but I'll report back here one way or the other.

And while he had it plugged in, the computer said I have a Haldex failure. Time to test the extended warranty..........

Haldex….aaah I wonder about that in mine Richard, I never used to be able feel the Haldex activate but now more recently if leaving a junction briskly I can feel the front tyres (fairly recent P Zeros) break traction for a moment before getting some help from the back. Fingers crossed it's a good result or you will be joining the 'tempted to defect' thread....

From my own experience I believe that's normal - don't worry about it.

Got home and scanned the car with VCDS and ODIS, and no faults found. Hmmm. I'll have to keep an eye on it and see if it comes back. I have to say, I haven't noticed any unusual behaviour. Is there anything obvious I should be looking out for, save waiting to end up in a ditch?

#11 ·
Ref my Haldex experience - https://www.q3ownersclub.co.uk/forum/53233-post1.html I know the Haldex on later cars does not have a main filter but it's likely to have the mesh screen which could still get blocked with oil residue gel.
If you are paying for repairs it's something to check before they decide to replace the pump.

Cheers Spike

Well, a week further on and no crunching of gears, so I think I can say that the software update fixed the problem. The Haldex code hasn't come back either, so perhaps it was just a glitch. Fingers crossed.

Do you know the name/number of the auto box software update. Mines a 2.0 TDI auto, I'm assuming it's the same software upgrade on the auto box that stops the intermittent grinding noise?

Thanks.

There are software updates for pretty much all the DSG control modules. If you can read out the current module number and software version you can compare it to the latest flash files. In this list, I have marked mine, which is module number 0BH 300 012C. My original software was 2230, but you can see the new one which was flashed (2219).

What confused me, and the indy, was that the software version was a lower number. However, when he connected his computer to Audi, it confirmed it was the newest version for the car.

For some reason the image doesn't always seem to show. Here is another link to it:

Hi, I have this exact same problem on my 2014 Audi RSQ3 - The cars low mileage at just 40k but when driving slowly bumbling along changing from 4th to 5th theres a grind noise for a brief second. It does it completely at random and not all the time but always when changing up from 4th to 5th. It never does it when driving spiritedly only when pootling along at a steady speed. Can someone point me in the right direction how to solve it? Can I update the car with V2219 mentioned above myself and if so what do I need to do so?

Updating firmware on any module is a process that requires specific hardware and software to be able to complete it properly. This generally means its dealer only or a specialist that has that capability.
Getting a dealer to do it is like pulling teeth in that they generally won't take your word for it and will want to "investigate" the issue first before probably telling you there isn't an update avaliable!
You may have better luck with a clued up independent but again that is pot luck.
A third option could be a specialist gearbox remap?
