Hi ATD, I love the fact in the UK (where we get about 3 days of snow and 10 of slush per year) I am constantly asked why I choose FWD and not Quattro because of the snow! and in Austria with 2/3 months of snow you have choose FWD. Car looks great!
Quattro may help you move off better in the snow but without proper tyres it's not going to be any better than FWD when you get going i wouldn't have thought. However in the typical damp, wet roads we get here in the uk you'll appreciate it.
Although anything is better than my last 3 series, you need to carry a spare pair of pants in the boot if you plan on driving in the wet
That's why my three series touring had to go.
I went on a BMW jolly to Germany about 3 years ago looking at what turned out to be be their new electric car- quite hideous. The general moan from about 30 BMW owners was the winter handling.
I used to go to Munich quite regularly and even in very bad weather the winter tyres were doing their job. Perhaps there should be a move (or return) to all weather tyres. The old cross plys usually worked in most weather conditions.
