Does the stop/Start system cause problems with eg: clutch, flywheel gearbox etc

I assume that you have a manual Q3. Stop/start causes no mechanical problems. However, it is like marmite, you either love it or hate it. It is more palatable with the DSG.

Like DavidS I cannot stand it, it gets the bird every time as soon as I start the engine.

Ditto - I turn it off as part of the startup routine. It's bloody annoying but I can't see it causing any mechanical problems with clutch, flywheel or indeed anything else.
