so 2015 q3 tdi quattro tdi 52,000 on the clock ,

went to our local vw indie for an mot , they failed it due to the outer ring of the rear damper having movement , we have owned the car less than a year , bought from an audi main dealer with a warranty

so called our local main dealer and booked in to be looked at , they put it on the ramp and say nothing wrong with it !

both insist they are right , there is no vibration or odd transmission noise

indie say they wont pass it

audi say they will so booked in in a weeks time

talk about devil and the deep blue sea !

any ideas or experience of this situation

What part are they actually referring to? The prop shaft vibration damper? The rear gearbox mount? "Rear transmission damper" is not a term I've ever heard.

I had a propshaft damper replaced because the centre rubber isolator had 'grown' and locked the inner ring. This in turn prevented free movement of the outer inertia ring resulting in vibration being transmitted into the cabin
This youtube clip shows there is definite clearance between the rubber isolator and inner ring, about 1min 58 sec in
