Hello everyone,

I can now replicate the problem and so have decided to open a new post. I had previously mentioned this issue as a response to the original post that was raised by Richsherman on “wacky electrics”

http://www.q3ownersclub.co.uk/forum/have-i-the-start-of-wacky-electrics_topic702.html

My wife and I have done some tests today and I believe that I can replicate the issue when the rear doors & boot cannot be opened from the outside when I would have expected them to be unlocked.

The first thing to confirm though is that my car is configured to require two presses of the fob to unlock all the doors (whether this is relevant I have no idea).

This is what we did:

Test-1
<ul>
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">car unlocked with two presses of the fob
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">driver & passenger enter car
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">engine running with two occupants in drivers & front passenger seats
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">doors are locked - red light confirms this on the drivers door
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">switch off engine, remove key
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">driver & passenger exit by front doors
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">passenger closes their front door
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">drivers door is open at this point
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">rear doors & boot stay locked
Test-2

<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">switch off engine, remove key
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">driver & passenger exit by front doors

<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">drivers door is open at this point
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">rear doors & boot stay locked

Test-3

<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">rear doors & boot stay locked

Test-4
<ul>
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">car unlocked with two presses of the key fob
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">front passenger door is opened but seat not occupied by wife

<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">wife closes front passenger door from outside
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">wife gets into back seat
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">engine running with me in drivers seat, wife in rear seat
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">doors are locked - red light confirms this on the drivers door
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">switch off engine
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">driver exits car
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">driver goes round to nearside but cannot open rear nearside door (wife stuck inside! )
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">rear doors & boot stay locked
<li style="margin: 0px; line-height: normal; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; ">wife can open her rear door from the inside & so can exit car
In an emergency, with children or a frail person in the rear seats if a user encountered this issue for the first time I am sure they would panic and may not have the presence of mind to use the fob again (assuming they hadn't dropped it during whatever emergency had arisen).

Does this logic regarding the unlocking accord with everyone's view on being incorrect or is this what you would expect to occur? Can others replicate this issue?

n.b. I have emailed Audi this week asking them to let me know from their database if this is a known issue.
