My Daytona Grey Q3 should be mine next week, and I have decided to tint all the rear windows (the car has no extras beyond the standard S-Line, as it is a stock car). This allows me to personalise the car a tiny bit to my own
specification.
The chap that I am getting to do the job turns out to be the guy that Audi and Range Rover use anyway!

So here is the question . . .

What percentage tint should I get

A. 35%
B. 20%
C. Other?

I was going to go for 35%, but apparently Audi would usually fit 20%.

All views welcome.

It depends what you're after - coolness or practicality. I test-drove a Q3 S-Line with Audi standard tinted glass and what with black upholstery, black headlining and tinted glass, the interior was as dark as a witches....er.....hat, even in bright sunlight.

I noticed the other day that Audi have taken 20% off some of their accessories, this includes the fitted sun blinds which I am considering getting for our Q3. I have used these in the last 3 cars and unlike the tints I have been able to recoup more than 70% of my investment afterwards thanks to eBay.

Could be worth considering

Ignore the last comment, just checked with Audi and the parts they provide are just for the doors.

There was a firm from Germany (sonny boy - or something like that) who were selling a full set of fitted blinds for everything from the b-post backwards on eBay a while ago for about £170, which is probably cheaper than tinting

Priced up the tinting today with a local independent (turns out he does the local Audi, BMW and Range Rover dealers cars) and he will charge £200 for all 5 rear windows.

Reasonable price I thought, especially for this part of the world (not a lot of competition!)

A picture borrowed from the tinternet!

Q3 S-Line with standard front windows, and 20% tint to all rear windows.

I think that it will look even better on Daytona Grey

Looks good, might do this to ours. Just need to find a tinted near us who will do it for £200, either that or it's some tailored blinds from Germany...

Not too far from you

http://www.car-stuff.net/

This is who I used 3 times whilst living in Manchester/Chester.
The guy is an absolute perfectionist, and his price was very fair. Highly recommended.

Ended up getting a cheaper quote, so went back to the guy I wanted to use, and he dropped his price to £170
Result! Lifetime warranty too.

Audi will drive my car to him (about 0.25 mile) so he can tint my windows before delivery.

Sounds fair

You will almost certainly find that Audi will subcontract the job to a local specialist.
I went direct to the guy who my Audi dealership use.
They asked how much I paid, and told me that was less than they pay him (before any mark up).

Do you know what percent film is being used?

That will probably be 5% then. The figure tells you what percentage of light the film lets through (remember most glass is usually 75% tinted already).
What colour Q3 are you getting?
