I'm sure many members will have already seen the 'Inside Story' article 'Filtering the Forums' in this weeks edition of Auto Express, where it asks the question 'Can you trust the advice you get on online car forums?' One of the case studies refers to a Q3 thread on chipping diesels in connection with both performance but mainly warranties. It makes for interesting reading along with the other examples (some ridiculous) and the conclusion is that advice given on forums can be a mixed bag ....
I am sure that all my member colleagues on this forum are intelligent enough to realise this
but I thought that it may be worth highlighting anyway. I have gained much from the forum and hopefully will continue to do so using my own common sense if and when required. I'm surprised that perhaps there isn't a disclaimer somewhere on the site however, unless I couldn't find it.
I also couldn't find a link to the article which doesn't appear to be on the AE website

Any forum whatever the topic needs to be read with the view that you combine the advice with your own judgement. The same is true for car reviews in the likes of auto express etc. what I have found car forums like this give you compliments the advice already out there in the traditional motoring press but gives you something they don't; the views of actual owners living with and paying for the car in question. So in my opinion whilst I know I'm a newbie it's been one valuable resource in assisting the decision making process but not the only one.

In addition I think the members of this forum compared to the RRE one are a fairly balanced bunch pointing out the positives and negatives in a constructive manner.

Thats true. I'm a member of many car & Audi related Forums and often there are 'specialist' (privateers) that sell there thinking as something thats true. Especially about tuning.
But, I have also experienced the real technicians freaks who know a lot and know what they are talking/writing about.

I have passed on the magazine so not sure of the no. but think it is 1240. Its the most recent edition i.e. last weeks. I also take most of their reviews / comments with an open mind and a healthy pinch of salt.
