Awaiting My Q3, but it is pre spec and no privacy glass. Thinking about having it done when its delivered.
Will/can the Audi dealer do it?Would I be better going to an independant company?
Mainly concerned that as its not factory order..will the quality will be any good

Have no fear - as far as I'm aware they don't fit it at the factory anyway, it's a dealer fit option which they normally subcontract to a local specialist. The quality would need to be good for the Audi dealer to use them.

The factory privacy is heavier tinted glass, tinted privacy done retrofit is a pvu film that is applied to the standard green glass. so if you have it changed to privacy spec it will be a film applied.

Actually the factory spec tint is lighter than "limo tint" which is the darkest you can ask for as a retro fit.
That was the reason why we went dealer fit as factory wasn't dark enough for me

"Limo" tint is what they call the darkest tint.
You said the factory tint is heavier tinted. Which it isn't if you compare to the darkest possibly 3 tints available. You can see into a factory tinted q3 quite clearly

The factory tint is 37% vlt, factory privacy tint is 20%vlt, vlt means visual light transmittance, the amount of natural light that can pass through the glass, so the factory privacy tint 20%vlt is a heavier tint than the standard tint.
If you have tint film applied as a retro fit option, 20%vlt film is usually used on top of the factory green 37%vlt glass, this gives the appearance as if it was factory privacy tint. If you have had the "limo" tint fitted that usually has a 5%vlt a lot darker, or even if you wanted to go even darker or could afford to do it, and find one of the very few installers in the uk that could fit it, you could have 2%vlt that is exceptionally dark, but looks very light looking outwards of the vehicle.

£140inc is incredibly incredibly low, check what film they use, and especially the warranty from the film manufacturer, the last thing you want is peeling or worse pink film after a year!

What are the benefits of prvacy glass ?? Personally, I think it's looks hideous, but there must be some actual benefits (we can't all be celebrities that don't want to be seen
) ??

Uv protection for passengers and interior, keeps car cooler in the sub, and if you have children you don't have them moaning of the sun in their eyes, plus you can pick your nose in a bit more privacy at the lights

I can understand the children bit - we're a bit old for that now and have no grandchildren yet (still waiting - although we do have dogs - but they don't go in the car that much). Isn't the privacy glass only in the rear, so it doesn't affect the front seat passengers ? If it could cover all the windows then it might not look so bad - I just think it looks very odd only having half the car dark
Does the SE come with any tinted glass - I didn't check when we ordered. Both our current cars have some tinted glass, I think, which provides a little less glare.

The law states that the front-side windows must allow at least 70% light through, as this is sucha light level of tint, most people do not bother getting the front done. The rear windows can be tinted to a greater level hence the 'half the car dark' effect you mention. I got my Q3 windows done as a retrofit by a firm who do work for my local Audi dealer. As you say, it is a personal preference and not for everyone andif you didn't specify privacy glass when you ordered, the car will not arrive with the half-half effect.

Oh and PS - if you do get it done, don't forget to tell your insurance company!

My mum even has it on her Corsa, was standard mind you. I sometimes drive it and find it a bit annoying in the dark for parking, maybe if i had kids i would get it to save the horrible look of those cheap shades.

The tints arn't standard on any of the q3's, they all have the standard slight tinted glass you get on all cars

Thank you :) I didn't even notice the tinted glass - too much else to take in and think about :)

</font>The company uses Solargard film backed upped with
a 5 year warranty </font></font>

</font>

</font>The company will fix it if the film start to peel off for
as long as you own the car. </font></font>

</font>

</font>In addition he must have done hundreds cars for my local Audi dealer alone so they trust them.</font></font>

</font></font>

</font>We are getting ripped off by Audi a Q3 tinted windows cost
£330 in the options list they order them without factory tinted windows and
they get trade prices at around £110 nice profit for the dealership but will the customer ever notice it?</font></font>

</font></font>

</font>I only lease the Q3 for 3
years and will never own it but I will look after it. The only option I have ordered is folding
door mirrors</font></font>

That's about the best reason for having privacy/tinted glass I've ever come across.
