I have a new Q3 and from the outset have had problems with the MMI system. To start with, I could not load myself as a user - this was tried in front of the dealer but I still took the car. The next morning I managed to load it and this was start of problems. My wife cannot add herself as a user and various messages load when we’re driving along. For example, the other day we were driving along with the radio on when the radio cut out and the screen said loading personal settings - this happened twice on our outbound journey and twice on the return. Twice we could not have been more in the centre of our lane and it came up with “Lane departure warning”. I have also had Traffic sign recognition: fault on a few occasions and some other messages that I cannot remember.
Audi had this for 2 days and could not fix it. They wanted a 3rd day but I was not prepared to be without a car for 3 days running, it is now booked in for another 2 days later this month - does that mean if they had it for the 3rd day they would need a 4th!!
Anyone had these problems?
Do you think I have a lemon!

Hi,
Seems like you are not alone.
Few other members have also reported the same.
Probably by now Audi must be aware of and some fix would be out sooner or later.
I would say report to dealer and meanwhile try a MMI factory reset.

Thanks
KJ

Hello we purchased a brand new Audi Q3 sportback in March 2020. The app was downloaded, and at the dealership we logged onto the system and using the 10-digit code set up as a key user. However by June 2020 the app failed to lock/unlock remotely and on the home page does not show --mi range. The dealer has been 100% supportive but in spite of numerous factory resets, and numerous exchanges with Audi digital up to and including todays date, nothing has been resolved. In fact it has been reset so many times that the system locked me out as a security issue and asked me to go to the dealer to get a new code. We did this, and obtained a new code at no cost to myself, (I have heard some dealers apply a charge). When we downloaded the code the dealer could not believe that it, rejected it and asked me obtain a new code. The only way we could resolve it was to set up a new email account, and then it accepted the code. The one thing they never tell you is that code can only be used 10 times, and then you are locked out for security.
We have had a number of issues with the navigation system, which freezes. Audi are in denial about the issues with the new MMI system, but they really do have issues, I know a number of frustrated owners that have ongoing problems. For my part I love Audi's but they have this very wrong and need to own up to it and resolve it.
We were considering keeping the vehicle longer than the three years, but do have concerns about the technology which appears to be flakey.

A sad tale of woe.

1) The MyAudi app has a long and sometimes doubtful history, was almost a novelty item at the beginning and has slowly matured but even today has to be viewed as 'Work in Progress', even in the last week it has been off-line for a few days.

2) Setting up the Key user in the car, has to be done carefully - if there is a need (because of an input mistake) to delete the Key user then it takes a few hours (I'd suggest overnight) for the Audi systems, presumably in Germany, to catch up and re-sync. Some Audi dealers don't know this and blunder onwards with a negative result.

Sounds very similar to the problems we have, resetting many times during a journey, knocking off the Sat Nav and phone calls etc. We’re now left with no way to re-add the 2 users who were added at the dealers in April 2021. I can’t do this in the car as guest users can’t do that. I Have tried to do this via a pc, it can see the car on the key users log in but the car details are wrong and when trying to refresh it says “selected system is currently unavailable”. Seems a trip to the dealer is required!

Hello! I am also having the same problem with my MMI system as well. I've just recently posted on the forum as well about it. My audi is also brand new just got it last week.
Basically every 30 mins or so whilst driving the MMI system will turn off, turn back on and I have about 1 minute of "welcome" and then 30 seconds of "loading personal setting"

I called my dealership and they said it sounds like a connection problem.

I did a factory reset of the MMI system as per the advice. I've not loaded a user profile, and not used my key code. I'm just going to keep continuing as a guest. I am now testing out whether its solved the problem but really its not a solution because its not feasible to never load any personal setting.

If anyone finds a solution to this problem please let me know

Let's try this first and if all looks good then start the process step by step for loading the user etc.
You never know.

Thanks.

Good news, so Jalees recommendation of doing a factory reset appears to have fixed my MMI rebooting problem. I did a factory reset today, and drove for 2.5 hrs (in two journeys). The MMI didn't restart at all. Normally it would have gone through 3 reboots in this time.
I left the personal settings blank and just used the MMI as a guest. My guess is that I failed to set up my personal setting correctly, and the MMI kept rebooting because it couldn't connect to myaudi, or it couldn't get my personal settings.
I will update again if anything changes. For now I am going to continue as a guest.

Did you reload your personal details as a user?

I would like to update this thread on my Audi MMI problems which Audi have had in to their garage for 2 lots of 2 days and still cannot fix the problem.
Apparently this problem has occurred on other models and has been since the 70 plate. Audi UK are aware of the problem and “are looking for a fix” - quite how hard they are looking appears to be, not very hard - why would they when they’ve had your money and sold you a s**t car!

But Jalees, why should you buy a £35k car and not be able to use it as it was built for by Audi!!

You shouldn't have to compromise of course! Audi do have a good track-record of fixing stuff, software is particularly challenging in cars because of the huge number of interdependencies for both options installed and external services like the MyAudi app.

You can escalate the issue by engaging with Audi Customer Services and close the loop between your dealer and Audi AG.

Customer Services = 0800 699 888

Opening Hours:
Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm. Closed on Bank Holidays.

Send your query, including the relevant customer and vehicle details

Thanks John - I find it unbelievable that the guy who sold me the car obviously knew of the problems with MMI system came out to car to watch me try to connect with MMI system and sent me on the way knowing it was a problem and I had not been able to sign in when I left him! It says it all!

Oh Woodenhorse you should never assume that the sales droids know anything really useful about the car systems. When I collected my RS4 back in 2018 I loaded an SD card containing video files which replayed via the car's central display...the sales chap was a 15 year+ veteran and never knew that Audi MMI (needs the Tech pack option for those with an 8U Q3) could play video off an SD card....went off to find his sales manager!

To be totally fair it must be challenging to stay on top of the changes which are constant. Audi have a track record of introducing new tech in the A8 and in the following model years it percolates down through the model ranges - the customer is just a chunk of commission and a unit nearer the monthly target to the salesman. They (and the Business Manager) are all over you in the sales cycle and then cold when the delivery takes place.

I know what you mean.
Correct no compromise but like John mentioned this software and whole lot of these services integrated becomes a mess sometime.
What we can do is let's try a factory reset first and don't put anything use it as a guest for few days.
Then if system behaves then let's take 1 step a time.

Yes but they must know of the problems they have been experiencing for 18 months or more - I would feel like a hyena at a lion’s kill!

Tried to escalate as you advised - basically they wash their hands of it and say it is down to dealership to sort the problem out!
