There seems to be a few ad hoc posts about fuel consumption on the Q3. As I have completed about 3500 miles on my Q3 and nearly 2000 miles of that was on French motorways during July, I thought I would share my consumption figures with you. These figures are based on the litres put in the tank vs the mileage done, rather than just the trip computer onboard.

I'm not a particularly conservative driver, but use 6th gear where I can. I would say that I probably stay with 10% of the speed limit and as TomTom no longer allows speed cameras in France, you have to be careful. My average speed on the French motorways was probably in the region of 80mph.

The official quoted mileage on my Q3 S-Line TDI (140) is 54.3 mpg combined. The average I've achieved across 8 fill ups is 39.67mpg. That is about 1mpg more than the onboard computer is giving me accumulative. (computer 2)

My best consumption was 44.24mpg after I filled up on the southern side of Paris. Strangely enough my worst consumption was 35.89mpg which was the journey from Kent via Eurotunnel through stop/start traffic in Paris.

Between my best and worst, I covered 100 miles more on the same tank of fuel.

My previous car was a 10-reg A3 petrol 1.4 Sport and my consumption averaged out at 33.06mpg, the best being 40.52 and the worst 27.04 over 35 fill ups.

For those that like stats, here are a few.
Avg cost of fuel per mile: £0.14
Avg miles per £: 7.1 miles

PS: If you have a smartphone, get an app called FuelLog. It's great for all those consumption stats.

Thanks for posting this - it's really useful info. I hope somebody can post the TFSI mpg's - I pick mine up in September

129 miles from new on Saturday. Cold start mixed town and dual cariageway, two halts for shops, 46.2 miles, av speed 39 mph, max speed 70mph, fuel consumption 46.1mpg with stop start on and kicking in a fair bit through town, plus efficiency program on drive select (means auto goes into neutral and coasts at 900 rpm down hills, coming up to red traffic lights etc).Edited by: drjamesr

Driven over 11,000 miles in my 140 FWD TDI and despite a relatively heavy right foot, the overall mpg trip now indicates 50.7 mpg and this figure is still slowly creeping up. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />For my daily commute that includes some minor roads, A roads, a ‘fast' dual carriageway section plus getting through 3 busy towns and several traffic light sets, the journey trip will often indicate 55+ mpg. This exceeds the published combined figure of 54.3 mpg .....so well pleased! The best for my commute journey when driven very carefully and limiting to around 50 mph has been over 62 mpg

Those are a fairly impressive set of figures. They do say it takes around 10,000 miles before better figures are obtained, so things can only get better. I wonder how much the cold weather will affect the figures.

In my previous car, a Tiguan auto, I achieved 2mpg better than advertised over 38,000 miles. However in my wife's A1 TDI, we can't get anywhere near the published figures. In fact the Q3 140 2wd is getting near to the A1's figures.

</font>Hi Setig,<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

</font>Yes, it was after around 7,000 that my mpg improved
but this was also probably when we experienced warmer temperatures.

</font>I do expect my figures to drop off somewhat as
the temperature now drops and will perhaps post again after the winter.

</font>p.s. sounds like you should trade in the A1 andtreatthe wife to a
Q3!

My q3 has gone into the garage as it needs a new steering lock. When you took the key out of the ignition the radio remained on and the car would not lock. Re-inserting the key, or a tap on the barrel sorted it out, but it needed fixing- so they have loaned me a Q3 2wd tdi until the new part arrives from Germany.

The fuel consumption is brilliant. It more or less matches the A1 tdi figures within a couple of mpg. Very impressed with it.

No Mrs setig will not be getting one! She can keep her shopping trolley (A1)

My Q3 is at 9,500 miles now - and from cold this morning, my cross-country drive of 21 miles showed an average speed of 38mph, and an average mpg of 56.2 - I guess it's loosening up nicely!

I really struggle to see how it does it, for a fairly chunky beast, it's nippy enough, handles nicely, but just doesn't seem to like drinking fuel. It's not like I even use the stop-start much either.

My wife has a 1.6 115hp Volvo C30, and that seems to deliver better mpgon Shell diesel than others - (I just tend to put in any brands - Morrisons, Sainsburys, BP, whatever) - does anybody else notice something similar?

Hi Guys my name is Panos, greetings to everybody.
One main reason i join the forum even that i am from another country (Cyprus) is that i would like to know ans share the fuel consumption of my car.
I own an AUDI Q3 2.0 TFSI 170BHP purchased on 04/12/2012.

My fuel consumption is more less 9.0 Lts/100Km and i can assure you that i try to be as smooth as i can , low RPM and always try to have 6th gear.

To be honest i was hoping that it would be more fuel economy based on the mix cycle which is factory stated at 7.3Lt/100Km.

Can you advice anything on that? Unfortunatly i do not have the autodrive select feature for economy mode and so on.

Is there any official way to have a ECO mode somehow?

thnaks in advance.

Hi guys i am new to the forum so greetings to everyone.

I own a AUDI Q3 2.0 TFSI Quattro.

I would like to share my fuel consumption which i have to say is a bit dissapointing as far as for my side.
I have an average of 9.1 Lt/100Km and i assure you that i drive very smoothly and try to have low RPM and always use the 6th gear whenever i can.

I only have 6500km so i do not know if it will improve when i reach the 15000km.

Can you advice anything on that?
Is there any OFFICIAL way to have an Economy mode (unfortunatly i do not have the autodrive select feature)

thanks in advance.

The fuel consumption will drop something when the engine is more 'lose' after 10-15K

Here is the same Q3 in Germany CLICK and the owner has driven about 12K and had 27 fueltank-fillings.
His average is 7.65L/100KM using 95 octane.

Hi Panos, we have the same engine, so to a certain extent our numbers may be comparable. I have the manual transmission, and have done about 5000 km so far. The numbers (liters per 10 km) for the last five fillings are these:
0.9902 0.7436 0.7482 0.9775 0.9436
The two lower numbers stem from a 1000 km trip done in just two days. Conditions then were not the best, and I had to drive from an altitude of 0 to 1500, 0 again, 1500 and back to 0 m above sea level, so maybe not so bad with 7.4 l/km after all. After that the temp here has been between -15 and 0 degrees C, but maybe that is no worse than Cyprus-temps w/air-condition running after all. The driving has been mostly short urban trips.
The overall consumption so far is 8.5 l/km.

Hi all,
I am a little disappointed with my fuel consumption. I have only had the car for a month and done 1300 miles so far which has been a genuine mixture of urban, rural and motorway. I have stayed within speed limits and not pushed the accelerator too hard when speeding up. In other words I have tried to give the car every opportunity to be economical and so far I don't think it is. The overall average consumption to date is 41.0 mpg. It is the 177PS TDI, S-tronic. Anyone else had similar experience with this engine/transmission? Hopefully it will improve as it gets older.

The best i've had was 46mpg on a 112 mile run, but my usual average so far is below 40.
The car has got 3500 miles on it so hopefully it will get better as the car loosens up.
So i would say that you're having about average mpg.

Our first 1,000 miles was mainly long runs, with cruise control set between 62-65mph when on the motorway and I achieved 50-52mpg. We have 2,500 miles on it now and shorter journeys and colder weather has dropped it significantly, but the lowest I have had is 38mpg. The last time I filled up it averaged 40.5mpg

I think your figures are about right. Once we get the warmer weather again and you get more miles on it I am sure you will see an improvement.

A bit sad I know but I normally keep an eye on mileage for the first year or so of a new car. The table below might be of interest to some. Ignore the August figures - I think I may have made a boob somewhere (?)! The MPG</font> is my calc. value and the other column is taken from the ongoing value on trip2 of the DIS. I don't do a huge mileage (mixed driving conditions at the moment) and its great to only visit the petrol station about once a month unless on a trip. Overall, more or less on a par with my previous A3 (140 Tdi) so not bad considering 177 now, but will hopefully improve. Apologies to my metric colleagues

Thanks for sharing those figures with us.

By my 'rough' calculations and taking into account your August figures when there is a blip, I reckon that you are getting about 40mpg, or just over.

I use Fuelly.com to record my fuel consumption- So does that makes us both Sad
